Education Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in related field required. Master's degree in related field preferred. Experience Qualifications: Must be a retired officer with a minimum of 20 years active duty, retired four years or less when employed. Skills Qualifications: Strong organizational skills; ability to challenge and motivate teenagers; ability to communicate with others in an effective and tactful manner; demonstrated skills in organization and problem solving; ability to analyze existing processes and identify areas for improvement; plus additional skills to be determined by the branch of service associated with the program; ability to work successfully with colleagues; ability to project and generate a positive attitude; and ability to effect change. Primary Responsibilities: Lead and conduct the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program in accordance with applicable law, Armed Services, and Cadet Command regulations and policies. 1.          Lead classroom instruction. a.         Lead the instruction of cadets according to the curriculum that is provided by the respective branch of the Armed Services. b.         Prepare the unit for official visits by dignitaries, tri-annual formal inspections, and mandated visits from higher headquarters. c.         Accomplish required school tasks and participate in staff meetings, school committees, and student activities. d.        Perform duties required of other teachers in the school. e.        Lead the instruction of JROTC cadets. f.          Achieve the curricular requirements and learning standards of the program of instruction. g.        Attain and improve proficiency in all military and other subjects taught. h.        Lead the improvement efforts of instruction by staying abreast of new and alternative instructional and motivational techniques. i.         Recommend changes to the curriculum and teaching methodology. j.         Counsel and mentor students concerning their academic performance as members of the Corps of Cadets. k.        Counsel interested students in applying for SROTC scholarships and completing service academy applications. l.         Recruit and retain new students. m.       Lead marketing for the JROTC program in the school and community. n.        Maintain the minimum enrollment of 100 cadets or ten percent of the school’s total student enrollment. 2.        Oversee records for the school, school district, and respective branch of the Armed Forces. a.        Evaluate cadets, enter grades, maintain equipment records, and financial records. b.        Prepare an annual Master Training Plan, develop a schedule for the year reflecting school activities and JROTC objectives and activities by including cadets in the planning phase, and organize cadets and resources toward the objectives. c.        Oversee electronic student records, provide enrollment and other student reports as required by the United States Army Communications Command (USACC), and meet school administrative requirements. d.        Oversee logistics tasks and requisitions. e.        Maintain arms and supply operations in accordance with regulatory guidance. 3.        Lead the organization of extracurricular events and competitions for cadets. a.        Schedule competitive events by contacting other schools and work with requests for color guard and rifle teams.         b.        Organize social events and camps for cadets. c.        Plan and coordinate cadet and instructors attendance to the annual JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC), conduct training, and other activities as prescribed by the JCLC commander. d.        Conduct risk assessment to mitigate the possibility of an accident for all activities and observe and enforce Armed Services and school safety guidelines. e.        Plan, organize, and conduct hands-on training that build from instructions in the classroom including color guard, marksmanship (optional), drill teams, and JROTC social activities such as an annual ball. f.         Supervise cadets after school hours. g.        Provide guidance and supervision for rifle team practice and color guard responsibilities. 4.        Participate in professional development. a.        Participate in recurring instructor conferences and other professional development opportunities offered by the district. b.        Meet any continuing education requirements of the state, school district, and USACC. 5.        Perform other duties as assigned.   Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
