Retiring may be part of the plan on most people's minds at some time in the future, but when it sneaks up on a person seemingly unawares it can be hard to adjust especially when there is not enough income to keep up the lifestyle a retiree wishes. When this happens, there is no need to worry. There are plenty of companies that are willing and many times eager to hire the seasoned citizen who requires little to no training in order to become productive.

Many times, there is no need to leave the company that one has been working with for a while. Even if the individual is ready to step down from a heavy work schedule, a part time position is usually available for those who have proven their benefit to the company. There is just nothing like having an experienced employee on the job that can do the work without supervision. Companies spend fortunes training new hires who have never worked in the industry before, and that makes an older already proven employee very valuable.

With that in mind, there is no need to worry about retiring. There seems to be more employers than ever making efforts to attract the attention of older workers. Not only do they recognize the value that is inherent with an experienced employee, they also recognize the commitment on the part of retirement age workers to do the best job possible. AARP is also partnering with some nationally known employers to help recruit and then hire and train retirees who prefer to stay active and employed.

Some retired or retiring workers begin to check into becoming temporary workers with temp agencies like Manpower Inc. These organizations provide companies with the kind of experienced temporary help they need to get through some tough times. Situations where an employee quits and leaves a business inadequately staffed call upon temp agencies to fill the needs of their company until a replacement can be found. As a matter of fact, many times the temporary staffer is often offered the position after they have proven their worth.

For the retiree who has spent a lifetime developing their knowledge in a particular industry, there is always the opportunity to turn their expertise into a business. A consultant can hire themselves out to businesses on a temporary basis to share their experience and help other businesses grow.

It may interesting for the soon to be retired person to know that 51 percent of the workforce in 2010 was 40 years of age or older, and 20 percent of the labor force will be at least 55 by 2020. That means that even more companies will be encouraging older people to return to the work a day world.

Retiring does not have to be frightening even if there is not an adequate financial retirement plan in place. With so many companies recognizing the benefits they will derive from adding seasoned citizens to their team, there is sure to be a place to continue earning an income and maintaining a good health insurance plan for those who need it.
