Career choices for retirees are quite a few, but they can create new avenues for themselves. Most people want to work even after retirement either because they want money or want to keep themselves busy. Retirees would want to enjoy their retirement and hence would love to work on seasonal jobs. Here they work on selling things as per season. If you are a retired sales manager you will sell a product that people would love to buy.

Non-Profit Executive / Volunteer

You offer your services voluntarily. A job with no pay or nominal pay is acceptable to someone who is retired. Applicants should possess a bachelor's degree plus 2 to 4 years of experience in related field.

With the growth in population there is increase in demand of people who work as religious official. Even without becoming a religious official you can become qualified to officiate at weddings and other ceremonies. Do not think they don't make money. Here too the salary range is $26,900 to $77,200; and the growth in industry during last 10 years is 12%. Retired candidates may need training courses and/or certification and a bachelor's degree. State license to perform marriages is a must.

Financial Advisor

Because pensions have reduced and increase in too many finance companies, people are more prone to individual planning and there is heavy need for financial advisors. If you want to work on your own, this is best option to choose because majority of financial advisors are self-employed. They are highly paid and their salary ranges from $44,300 to $144,200. Job growth of position in last 10 years is 12%. Bachelor's degree in finance, math, accounting, economics, business, or law is a must. The applicant will also have to get a certification as a financial planner and a license to sell securities and insurance.

Public School Teacher

Many people are attracted towards the teaching profession because it gives you guaranteed holiday time off. There is such a demand for teachers that there are fast-track programs for older workers who want to teach. There are a few subjects as math, science and languages who are always in need of a teacher. Their salary ranges from $41,500 to $64,100. Growth of industry in last 10 years is 14%. Eligibility criteria vary by state, but you'll need a bachelor's degree and a state teachers' license. If you were a full time teacher before you retired you can start your own tutoring business or you can sell curriculum and lesson plans online. This only requires very little capital, time, and effort on your part.

Almost any job expertise could be turned into a small business opportunity during retirement. You may be able to launch a new career by starting your own consultancy firm or by opening any other type of business. Starting your own business using your skill set would make great sense as a career move during retirement. The experiences of a long career can give seniors the knowledge and confidence to successfully launch a business. Owning your own business means that you decide the schedule and pace of your work. While you are investing your life savings into a business spend time researching the logistics for your business to thrive and not be crazy for money. You are your own boss.
